ārakta-samitā (GuLAL powder)

Om ShankarAya namaha

What is ārakta-samitā
In Śrī Devi Pujas, a combination of 5 edible items mixed with a Glorious ārakta (pink) varnam is used for incurring limitless Blessings from Śrī Parameśvarī. In Śakti Sādhanās, especially of Rahasya Śrīvidyā Mrgam, this powder was called ārakta-samitā. Devi Śrī Lalitāparameśvarī Who Is None Other Than Śrī Rājarājeśvarī, Śrī Bhuvaneśvarī, is known to Possess ārakta-varnam and trilochanam. ārakta-varnam refers to the pink hue of the morning skies and also the hue of Creation itself, and trilochanam means the tridalam concepts of Śrī Vilvam which represent the Chandra-Sūrya-Agni Netrams of Lord Śivā. Since Her Highness Shakti Is the same as Lord Śivā, Her Highness is called trilochana.

Why do we call it guLAL powder
guLAL means colour, and all the colour powders used during the colour-festival called Holi came to be known as guLAL powders. And since this is a colour-powder that we use in Pūjās which is so different to haridram (turmeric which is yellow), kumkumam (vermillion which is red), vibhūti (holy ashes which is white), a pink powder used during Śrī Lakṣmī Pūjās, during Holi and other festivities, came to be known as guLAL powder. Although that just represents the coloured powder, ārakta-samitā is an ancient recipe for Śakti Sādhanā.

Contents of ārakta-samitā
The exact proportion of floral petals, cardamom, camphor, mace, specially prepared rice flour. Our ārakta-samitā has the exact proportions of all the above that can be used for Śakti Sādhanās, to open the Dimensions of enjoying Goddess and incurring Blessings. Proportion is the most important in Pūjā dravyams, a slight shift in the proportion changes its purpose and hence the outcome; we have prepared it in perfect combination for you to just enjoy and bask in The Light Called Devi.

How to use it
Use a pinch of this powder to Śrī Devi as if sprinkling it upon the Idol, after the completion of the Pujas before Dīvārtana. On the other hand, this powder can also be mixed with rose water and applied as Tilakam for Śrī Devi.
